Antiphonitis Monastery

Antiphonitis church is often said to be one of the most beautiful historical buildings in Cyprus. The surrounding landscape and breathtaking views just adds to this beauty, as it is located in the mountains near Esentepe.

Antiphonitis church originates from the 7th century but has through the centuries experienced developments, reconstructions and been adorned with beautiful art that still today makes this an intriguing place. At one point in time this was also the site of a monastery. The old, worn away stone walls truly tells the story of many past centuries. Most of the art that cover the inside walls are biblical frescos that really add colour to the church. The majority of these originates from between the 12th and the 15th century. The fading and worn away state of these artworks are to many a tragic loss, but reflects to the ambiance that this place holds – one of history.

Antiphonitis Monastery is open everyday with following opening hours:
April – October: 08:30 – 17:00
November – March: 08:30 – 15:30
